District Collector S.A.M. Rizvi on Friday asked officials of various departments to work in coordination to ensure enrolment of school age children in educational institutions as part of the special enrolment drive being launched by the government across the State from June 18 to July 2.
Addressing a meeting at the sub-Collector's office with officials of various departments and representatives of local NGOs, he said the State planned to implement this educational drive through Rajiv Vidya Mission with an aim to educating every child in the State.
He wanted the district panchayat officer to organise gram sabhas in villages to educate parents of school-age children on the need to send their wards to schools. People must be told about the advantages of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act and the several welfare schemes launched by the government for schoolchildren, he said.
An extensive campaign must be taken up to educate the masses and cultural troops from Information and Public Relations department could be roped in for the purpose. Informing about the various activities to be taken up as part of the special drive, he said the Rajiv Vidya Mission wing of the education department would organise collective ‘aksharabhyaasam' on June 22. On June 23, competitions in drawing, essay writing and personality development must be conducted on ‘Right to Education Act'. Task force committees must be formed with local tahsildars, MPDOs, MEOs, mandal resource persons, supervisors and labour department officials as members.
