‘Give seats on discount to poor and middle class students who passed out from VMC schools with high marks' said Muncipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu
Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu has requested all corporate colleges to give seats on discount to poor and middle-class students who studied in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation High Schools and secured high marks.
The Municipal Corporation convened a meeting with representatives of different colleges in the city and parents of municipal school children at the corporation's council hall here on Tuesday.
Ninety per cent of the students in the 10th standard passed the examination and 143 students secured more then 480 marks, he said.
The students were counselled by the representatives of different colleges giving them an idea where they stand. The representatives of different colleges took details about the merit and economic status of the students.
The Commissioner said the Lanco Foundation was giving Rs.5,000 to students who secured high marks, but the amount should be increased to Rs.10,000. He asked the representatives of different corporate colleges to extend the discount to municipal school students who got admission in the second year also. Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) M. Srinivasa Rao, Deputy educational officer K. Durga Prasad, and schools' supervisor M.V. Venkateswara Rao.
