The prices of agricultural produce should be 50 per cent more then the production cost as per the recommendations of M.S.Swamithan Committee, Akhila Bharath Kisan Sabha vice-president Kolli Nageswara Rao has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday Mr Rao said the expenditure on just fertilizers was an additional 70 per cent to 265 per cent when compared to kharif last year. The Central government was planning to increase the prices by 15.31 and 33.33 per cent. He said along with the sudden hike in fertilizer rates, the costs of labour, diesel, the rent of tractors have all shot up.

He said the implantation of Dr Swaminathan's recommendation is the only way to protect the interests of farmers.
