Moderate rainfall with powerful gales occurred in many parts in Krishna district on Sunday. People who have been suffering the severe summer heat for the past two months heaved a sigh of relief with the showers.
Rainfall accompanied by gales occurred at a few places due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal.
There was good rainfall in One Town, Gandhi Nagar, Moghalrajpuram, Poranki and other places in Vijayawada.
As usual, the day started very hot from 6 a.m. itself and the mercury touched a peak by 10 a.m. But then there was a sudden change in the climate and the sky became overcast with black clouds. Within no time, drizzles started at several places with gales.
Children, who were keeping indoors due to the severe heat for the last few days, were seen playing in rain waters and cool breeze at several places.
Main roads and low lying areas were submerged with rain waters for some time.
Power supply was disrupted and hoardings erected on the roadsides were damaged in some places due to the strong winds.
Rainfall was also recorded in Kankipadu, Gudivada and other areas in the district.
Unconfirmed reports said that a farmer died as lightning struck in Totlavallur mandal, while a few goats were charred to death when a lightning struck a herd of goats in Unguturu mandal.
