The vast stretches of open fields overlooking the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway opposite Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) are getting decked up for the swearing-in ceremony of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu as the 17th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 8.
About 70 acres of land sandwiched between the Guntur-Vijayawada railway line and the highway have been chosen as the venue for the swearing-in ceremony which is likely to be attended by over five lakh people. The main stage would be facing east and more pandals would be erected to accommodate the VIPs.
The exact time (‘muhurtam’) at which Mr. Naidu would take the oath of office and secrecy has been fixed at 7.21 p.m.
Guests galoreA host of VVIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Odisha and other States, Union Ministers, Supreme Court judges and important leaders of all political parties are expected to participate in the programme.
The top officials of the State government led by Chief Secretary-designate I.Y.R. Krishna Rao and DGP- designate J.V. Ramudu would come to Guntur soon to review the arrangements. On Friday, Inspector General of Police (South Coastal Range) P.V. Sunil Kumar, District Collector S. Suresh Kumar, Superintendent of Police J. Satyanarayana, Joint Collector Vivek Yadav and Revenue Divisional Officer S. Rammurthy along with DSPs inspected the venue and suggested various measures to be taken for the high-profile event.
Mr. Suresh Kumar instructed the Roads and Buildings Department to make arrangements for barricading the entire stretch, apart from setting up inner security rings.
The Electricity Department has also been asked to arrange high-mast flood lights at the venue and parking lots. The Collector asked the Survey Department to prepare a detailed map of the existing structures and land use pattern of the area. Later in the day, Mr. Suresh Kumar inspected the Centre for Distance Education on the ANU premises.
