Arogyasri services have been hit for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in the district following an altercation between Arogyasri Mithras and PG doctors recently.
The agitating volunteers have pitched up tents on the premises of Government General Hospital, Guntur for the last two days protesting against the alleged assault. There are 230 volunteers working in 31 health centres in the district.
Arogyasri volunteer Mahesh alleged that he was beaten up by a group of PG doctors while discharging duties in a ward in the GGH. The incident which took place on Thursday was hushed up after the doctors and volunteers decided to patch up. But on Saturday, the incident flared up again and a volunteer alleged that he was manhandled by a group of doctors.
Following orders from district Collector S. Suresh Kumar, an inquiry was held by a team of GGH doctors but it had failed to come to any conclusion on the nature of the attack. The complainant failed to turn up at the inquiry. A senior doctor said that the complainant failed to identify the person alleged to have attacked him. The inquiry was put off to Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Arogyasri Mithras met Additional Joint Collector Nageswara Rao who assured them their fears and concerns would be taken care of. Mr. Rao said that another round of talks would be held with the doctors on Wednesday to end the impasse.
