APSPDCL asks Transco to increase power share

June 27, 2012 11:33 am | Updated 11:33 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) has requested the AP Transco to enhance the power scheduled share of the company from 22.27 per cent to 25 per cent.

The Transco has allocated 46.06 per cent power to APCPDCL, 22.27 to APSPDCL, 15.87 to APNPDCL, and 15.80 per cent to APEPDCL.

With only 22.27 per cent of power allotted to SPDCL, officials are facing many problems forcing to impose load relief for many hours. The Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SPDCL of AP in a letter written to his counterpart in AP Transco at Hyderabad has demanded increase of the share to 25 per cent.

APSPDCL distribution network covers the electricity power needs of six districts i.e. Kadapa, Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasham, Guntur and Krishna. In Guntur and Krishna the demand for power is high.

The region has vast agriculture load potential. Though agriculture loads are fed in three groups per day, the load incident on the distribution network in any group will be not less than 1,000 MW any day round the year.

SPDCL has several spinning mills, textile industries, rice mills, cold storages, seed processing industries, poultry farms, Special Economic Zones and other small scale units. The continuing hot temperatures are increasing power demand.

As it has become difficult to maintain power distribution, SPDCL chairman wrote to the AP Transco chairman to increase the power share from 22.27 to 25 to meet the demand.
