Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) has identified 172 villages across the State as ‘litigation-free’ and the AP High Court will soon declare them as ‘litigation free areas’, said Andhra Pradesh High Court Acting Chief Justice N.V. Ramana.
In Guntur district, seven villages were declared ‘litigation free’ and the respective legal services institutions should ensure continuation of the title for each village, he said.
Justice Ramana along with Krishna district portfolio judge Justice G. Rohini and APSLSA member secretariat S. Ravi Kumar inaugurated Mega Lok Adalat at the District Courts Complex here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, justice Ramana said that under Article-39 (a), Government should give free and equal justice and under Article-21 speeding justice should be extended to the public.
Lok Adalats (People’s Courts) are playing a key role in speedy disposal of cases and Krishna District stood in the eighth place in Andhra Pradesh by settling 7,709 cases through Lok Adalats. About 23 villages would be declared ‘litigation free’ in Krishna District, he said.
Appreciating the performance of the APSLSA, Justice Ramana said that the SLSA conducted 15,155 People’s Courts last year (up to March 31) and settled about 1.48 lakh cases, and claims worth Rs.163 crore has been disbursed.
Justice Rohini opined that piling up of cases was causing inconvenience to the litigants. She stressed the need for speedy disposal of cases to strengthen human values. The APSLSA member secretariat Ravi Kumar said that a toll-free number would be allotted to the State Legal Services Authority soon for the convenience of the litigants.
Metropolitan Judge R. Murali presided over the programme. Krishna district Judge G. Chakradhar Rao, and Bezawada Lawers Association president M. Jayakar spoke.
