Members of the APNGOs’ Association went into a belligerent mood and burnt the effigies of three Union Ministers from Seemandhra – J.D. Seelam, Panabaka Lakshmi and Kishore Chandra Deo -- alleging that they were not doing anything to stop the Telangana Bill from being introduced in Parliament. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, association leader Mohammad Iqbal said that the UPA government had introduced the Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha using the Telangana MPs in a strategic manner.
The UPA would in all probability do the same for the Telangana Bill on Thursday. A state-wide bandh call was being given to protest against the undemocratic measures of the UPA government, Mr Iqbal said.
APNGOs’ Association Vijayawada unit president Ravi said that from the outset agitating government employees have been demanding the MPs to resign so that the UPA government collapsed, but they never consented. Now the Congress was itself suspending the MPs. However, the Union Ministers were still quiet about the injustice being meted out to the Telugu people in general and the Seemandhra people in particular.
Rasta roko stagedEarlier, the government employees along with Samaikyandhra movement activists staged rasta rokos on the two national highways that meet at the city at Gollapudi junction and Benz Circle to protest against the proposal to table the Telangana Bill in Lok Sabha.
Vijayawada Hoteliers’ Association president K Pattabhi Ram said that the story of Telangana reached final chapter and the only term that could be used to describe the way the UPA government was dividing the Telugu people was, vengeful.
Cong. supports bandhMeanwhile, DCC president Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao, city president Adapa Nagendra Rao, and working president Meesala Rajeswara Rao have, in a joint statement, asked people to observe a bandh on Thursday.
