The mushrooming of apartments is considered as a sign of development. But, for the politicians, it has turned out to be a nightmare. Keen to draw the attention of the voters and impress them with their promises, the leaders are forced to frequent these multi-storeyed structures, causing fatigue to their limbs.

“It is more difficult if there is no elevator in apartments. But, we can’t afford to ignore the voters for they decide our future,” the contestants say in unison.

Take the 8 division of the city for instance which has 80 to 100 apartments. As against the total voters of 15,200 not less than 2,000 are residing in these locality. Same is case with the 7 division. There are about 40 apartments. A majority of these dwellings do not have the lift facility much to the discomfort of the leaders.

The contestants do their homework so meticulously and identify houses in which both husband and wife are employees. “We reach them early in the morning as they return home only in the evening,” said Rambha Prasad, who is in fray for polls to the 22 ward.

They prefer completing their campaign work in apartments soon so as to hit road to meet other voters in the division. “I regularly go for walking to keep myself fit. It is now coming to help while climbing number of apartments up and down,” says TDP candidate Jasti Sambasiva Rao.
