Mild tension prevailed in fishermen villages in Tada and Sullurupeta areas following an attack on their members by fishermen from Tamil Nadu at Annamalaichery on Tuesday evening.

Five A.P. fishermen belonging to Rakshanakuppam of BV Palem mandal were on their way to sell fish which was caught in the Pulicat lake. They were attacked by fishermen from Tamil Nadu belonging to Chinnamangadu and Pedamangadu villages there.

Following the attack, old rivalry over fishing rights in the brackish water lake resurfaced once again in the fishermen villages. Fishermen from A.P. had retaliated against such attacks in the past when the neighbouring State’s policemen entered the border villages of A.P. and whisked away some local fishermen.

The injured A.P. fishermen were brought to a hospital in Gummidipoondi near Tada and their condition was stated to be stable.
