Felicitations to social workers, technical sessions on ‘Role of NGOs in India’, debates and discussions on some case studies marked the ‘World Social Workers’ Day’ celebrations on Acharya Nagurjana University (ANU) campus on Tuesday.
Faculty and students of Department of Sociology and Social Work is organising a two-day seminar on ‘NGOs and Civil Society in the Era of Globalization’, coinciding the ‘World Social Workers’ Day’ celebrations, said assistant professor and seminar director Dr. M. Trimurthi Rao.
AMG India International, director, Arun Kumar Mohanthy, who was the chief guest for the programme asked the students to take social work as a profession and serve the needy in the society.
ANU Rector Y.P. Ramasubbaiah explained the service activities being taken up by the varsity and praised the Sociology and Social Work department for taking up field activities in rural areas.
Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, ANU, B. Sambasiva Rao said the department adopted ten villages including Pedakakani, Koppu Ravuru, Kantheru, Mangalagiri Rural and other villages in Guntur district. Health, education, roads, drinking water and other amenities were provided in the adopted villages, he said.
Bala Bharathi founder director Y. Sambi Reddy felicitated three students who stood top in Sociology and Social Work Department in ANU. Mr. Reddy presented cash awards and certificates to the merit students.
The faculty and students felicitated Gotala Swamy, an NGO, on the occasion. Later technical sessions were held on various topics.
ANU Registrar P. Raja Sekhar, former Hindu College principal of Machilipatnam I. Satya Sundaram, programme organising secretary V. Venkateswarlu, assistant professors Y. Ashok Kumar, Saraswathi Raju Iyer, K. Dhana Lakshmi and others participated.
