The Andhra Pradsh Health Department is planning to approach the Medical Council of India for allotment of more under-graduate and post-graduate seats in Ayurveda stream for Andhra Pradesh. The move comes in the wake of the alleged injustice meted out to A.P in the allotment of seats after bifurcation.
Admitting poor allocation of seats to the State, Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said post-bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh was allocated only 30 under-graduate seats under Ayurveda quota whereas Telangana got 100 seats. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh got only five post-graduate seats, against 43 seats allotted to Telangana State, he informed.
“All efforts would be made to get more seats for the State before the commencement of next academic year,” assured Mr. Srinivas while inaugurating a new boys’ hostel at Nori Rama Sastry Government Ayurveda College in the city on Monday.
Addressing on the occasion, the Minister said there was a need to improve the provision of basic amenities at Ayurveda hospitals in the State and accordingly the budget allocation would be also be increased.
Along with doctors, it was essential to have paramedical staff at all the dispensaries, particularly in rural areas. The dearth of paramedical staff at the dispensaries was affecting the services offered to the people and steps would be taken to fill the vacancies at the earliest, he said.
Commissioner of Department of AYUSH, K.P. Srinivas said the new boys’ hostel was constructed at a cost of Rs.1.10 crore in an area spanning 400 yards at Tarapet in the city. It is equipped with 26 rooms and other facilities.
When the A.P. Medical Officers’ Association complained about encroachment of 90 yards place pertaining to the Boys hostel in the city, the Minister instructed the authorities to look into the matter and assured that necessary action would be taken.
