The State government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, first Chief Minister of Andhra State, on August 23 as a State function every year.

Issuing an order to this effect on Sunday, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao directed all the departments to observe the birth anniversary of Panthulu on a large scale across the State. The orders came in the light of the strong pitch made by people and political parties to celebrate the birth anniversary of Panthulu, who is also known as Andhra Kesari (Lion of Andhra) for his contribution to the freedom struggle.

The Chief Secretary said the respective departments would bear the expenditure during the celebrations from their budgetary provisions.

Meanwhile, the government has released Rs. 1.21 crore to the Home Department to meet the expenditure during the 68 Independence Day celebrations to be organised at Kurnool on August 15. The release came in the light of the request made by the Director-General of Police for sanction of additional budget of Rs. 1.42 crore in relaxation of Treasury Control Orders.

In the orders issued, Home Department Principal Secretary B. Prasada Rao said administrative sanction had been accorded for Rs. 1.21 crore under non-plan head as additional funds towards meeting the expenditure in connection with the Independence Day celebrations. \

]The amount would be met in relaxation of treasury control and quarterly relaxation order by obtaining supplementary grant at an appropriate time this financial year.
