Amid speculation over the location of the Railway Zone headquarters proposed for the State, the Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation (ACCIF) has invited suggestions from people’s representatives on the development of the sector in the new State.
“This is intended to impress upon the Railway Ministry on the need to give top priority to pending projects in the State and ensuring that they are incorporated in the railway budget,”
ACCIF executive director P. Bhaskar Rao said, and added that most projects had been pending for a long time. “They were not even crossing the file stage, which has necessitated a concerted effort to get the projects going at the earliest,” he said.
Both Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam stations need to be provided the best of facilities in view of their growing importance. Besides, more number of originating trains is essential to cater to the burgeoning passenger and freight traffic.
“Additional reservation counters have to be provided at places where the public face a lot of difficulty owing to heavy rush,” Mr. Rao added.
A meeting with people’s representatives will be held in Vijayawada soon to sort out contentious issues.
