A sixth standard student N. Sai Teja, of Kanchikacherla village, went into coma after the doctors allegedly gave an overdose of anaesthesia. The boy was admitted to a private hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
The patient’s family members staged a protest and attacked the hospital. The Suryaraopet police arranged a picket in the locality.
According to victim’s family members, Teja, son of N. Venkateswara Rao, a farmer, was suffering with tonsillitis (infection and swelling of tonsils). The parents admitted the boy in a private ENT Hospital in Suryaraopet, for surgery on November 28.
However, the patient went into coma and lost vision after some time. The hospital staff immediately shifted the boy to another private hospital where his condition is serious.
The boy’s family members allege that the doctor took Rs.30,000 for the surgery and a nurse gave overdose of anaesthesia.
“The boy is on ventilator and the body has turned black. But, the staff is not allowing the family members into the ICU. The hospital management collected Rs.40,000 in two days, on the pretext of emergency treatment”, said patient’s uncle Srinivas.
“The doctor was not giving any reply on the patient’s condition. The incident occurred just because of the medical negligence and carelessness of the doctor”, he alleged and demanded action against the hospital management.
