Envirofit (India) Private Limited, a Bangalore-based company, has come out with smokeless cook stoves that are meant to be of use in households in rural areas where firewood is being used as fuel for cooking. The organisation plans to promote its product in rural areas by entering into tie-ups with non-profit service organisations working in rural areas.

“Our products are designed by the US-based service organisation Envirofit International. These stoves reduce the emission of smoke by 80 per cent and reduce the use of fuel by at least 50 per cent,” explained P. Ravi Kumar, Operations Manager of the firm, addressing the media here on Wednesday.

Four designs

He said that the stoves were available in four designs and the price ranged from Rs. 850 to Rs. 2,700 based on the design. The firm was offering a warranty of up to five years, based on the design of the stove.

“The stove can bear a weight of up to 15 kg and we are also providing LPG converters with some designs. With this the user can switchover to LPG, depending on the availability of the fuel,” Mr. Ravi Kumar said.

Referring to the marketing of stoves, he said that a distributor each in all the districts of southern States had been appointed and campaigns were being conducted in villages. “We have also approached the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for their support to market the product. Our proposal is under the consideration of the Ministry,” he said. To a question, Mr. Ravi Kumar said so far 85,000 stoves had been sold in all the southern States and Maharashtra.
