Creativity, when combined with a dash of wit and humour, can deliver a punch.
Rajulapati Srinivasa Rao, popular as Bommala Srinu, brought into play his creative streak and allowed it to merge with his imagination to create a work that has been widely appreciated.
To commemorate special occasions, the artist draws inspiration from burning issues which reflect in his works albeit with a tweak. On the occasion of the forthcoming Vinayaka Chaviti, the artist has evoked the Special Category Status, a burning issue that is directly linked to development of the residuary Andhra Pradesh State. The painting depicts the Parliament house and Lord Vinayaka squatted in front of it with a placard demanding Special Status to Andhra Pradesh. His other hand points to symbolic images of poverty and employment staring at the people of the State.
“All our existing problems are linked to the promised Special Status. We need to understand the significance it and every individual must contribute his/her mite for its achievement,” he says.
A native of Bantumilli in Krishna district, Srinivasa Rao says art had caught his fancy when he was a student of third grade.
“I would try to make images from the soil I managed to dig out in the backyard of my home. While watching famous painters being interviewed in TV, I would imagine myself in their place,” he recalls.
Demonstrating that creativity has no boundaries, he went on to try other forms of art and dabbled in stone paintings, micro art on 2,500 different objects like rice grain, mustard seeds and even on a single strand of hair. One of his art pieces ‘Panchamukhi’ relating to vastu became a rage and won him many fans.
Next he is planning to associate Ganesha with the ongoing onion scarcity, Swachh Bharat and lack of irrigation facility for farmers, in his paintings.
