Several leaders of YSR Congress were rounded up by the police as part of preventive arrests carried out in the district on Wednesday. The leaders along with supporters blocked the national and State highways at several places leading to minor scuffles with the police.

Party spokesman Ambati Rambabu was taken into preventive custody at Kondamudi junction in Piduguralla after the former refused to relent. After a brief altercation with the police, Station House Inspector Sridhar Reddy took Mr. Rambabu into custody.

Party leaders Janga Krishnamurthy and Marri Rajasekhar were taken into preventive custody at Gurazala and Chilakaluripet respectively.

In Guntur, city convener Lella Appireddy was taken into custody by the rural police at the ‘Y’ junction oh NH-5 in Ankireddypalem.

Later they were released on bail. Mr. Reddy said that the agitation by the YSRCP would continue till the Centre rolls back its decision on Telangana.
