The All India Youth Federation (AIYF) has demanded the State government to allocate funds for organising sports festivals in every city and at the state-level every year.

Vijayawada city AIYF general secretary Navaneetham Sambasiva Rao addressing a gathering at the “Aata-Paata-Maata” programme conducted jointly by AIYF and the Communist Party of India (CPI) on the occasion of ‘kanuma' day of the three-day Sankranti festival at Ekalavyanagar here on Monday said that the sports festivals should be conducted every year in a scheduled manner with budgetary allocations to encourage sports.

He said that when the Left Parties were at the helm of affairs in the Municipal Corporation, sports meets were conducted every year without fail.

The Congress party that came to power has neglected sports and stopped conducting the annual sports meets, it said.
