Akkineni awards presentation today

Akkineni Foundation of America (AFA) will give away Akkineni International Awards to nine eminent personalities from various fields on December 17.

AFA president Prasad Thotakura said the awards had been instituted in memory of late thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao. “People, particularly youth, should take inspiration from the life of Dr. Akkineni who created history in Telugu film industry with his sheer dedication and discipline,” he said.

The awards will be presented at a programme at Gudivada at 3.30 p.m. A nine-foot bronze statue will also be unveiled at ANR College at Gudivada on the occasion. Essay writing contest

Meanwhile, more than 2,500 students attended an essay writing competition conducted by the foundation. M. Venkata Sivaprasad (Hyderabad), B. Sivanarayana (Vizianagaram) and Srivamsi Matta (Bangalore) won the first (Rs. 50,000), second (Rs. 30,000) and the third prizes (Rs. 20,000) respectively.
