Every three minutes, there is an attack on women, every nine minutes, a case of domestic violence is reported, a rape is committed every 22 minutes, a case of kidnap is reported every 23 minutes, and sexual harassment is reported every 76 minutes.
“This is the situation in the country. But political leaders are resorting to vote bank politics instead of bringing stringent laws to prevent violence against women and girls,” said All India Youth Federation State president N. Sambasiva Rao.
The AIYF activists organised a novel protest depicting the roles of woman, girl student, criminal, insane, and other unruly elements, at Lenin Centre on Thursday.
They enacted how the lovelorn youth and rapists were resorting to ghastly attacks on women and school-going girls.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said even as the Delhi gang-rape incident was fresh in the minds of the people in the country, a similar incident on a seven-year old girl was reported in Delhi.
The acid attacks, kidnap, sexual harassment, domestic violence, and rape and murder were increasing by the day, creating unrest among the people, particularly among women, in society, he said, and called upon the youth to sensitise people to prevent the horrible crimes.
