Airport expansion: all concerns will be addressed, says Collector

November 29, 2014 12:57 am | Updated 12:57 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

District Collector M. Raghunandan Rao on Friday said concerns of people who were expected to part with their lands for expansion of the airport at Gannavaram would be addressed by government and asserted that the project was important for the speedy development of the State.

A total of 417 acres was to be acquired for the airport expansion, he said during a meeting with officials, people’s representatives and people from Gannavaram and nearby villages, at his camp office here.

No injustice

Mr. Rao said the government’s intention was to transform the airport into an international one and asserted that it would not cause any injustice to the farmers and the general public who would be asked to part with their land for the project for a consideration.

The opinions of people gathered in the village meeting held on November 13 were taken to the government’s notice and necessary steps for protecting their interests would be taken by a high-level committee constituted by the Chief Minister, Mr. Rao said.

Gannavaram MLA V. Vamsi Mohan said a section of the public was asking land for land and others wanted monetary compensation. “The government has to take a sympathetic view of their demands for acquiring lands without any major problem,” he said.

Joint Collector J. Murali and Nuzvid RDO Ch. Rangaiah were among those present.
