Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy has stated that banks have surpassed the set targets and issued agricultural loans in the district.

“However, some bankers are trailing behind in sanctioning loans under various welfare schemes being implemented by the State government.”

Releasing the agricultural annual credit plan, the Minister said many eligible people were deprived of loans as some banks were failing to meet the targets. The beneficiaries were also at fault, as they were not repaying the loans in time. The bankers were not keen on issuing loans in view of mounting dues.

The officers implementing the welfare schemes should constitute special teams to recover the dues, he said, adding that it would help in sanctioning loans to more number of beneficiaries.

Referring to the action plan for the current financial year, the Minister said loans to the tune of Rs.6,698.80 crore would be sanctioned. Of this amount, more than Rs.2,178 crore was for crop loans and Rs.534 crore for medium agriculture loans. A sum of Rs.560 crore would be sanctioned for agriculture allied sectors and Rs.712 crore for the non-agriculture sector.
