Junior doctors affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors' Association (APJUDA) in continuation of their novel protests on Tuesday took out a procession walking backwards.
Holding placards and banners facing the wrong way the junior doctors walked backwards from the Siddhartha Medical College on Ring Road all the way to Ramavarapadu Circle on the 13 day of their agitation. The rally taken out walking backward was to highlight the ‘retrogressive' attitude of the State government. The demands highlighted on the banners were modernisation of emergency rooms and library facilities, hike, and regularisation of stipend to the junior doctors, improvement of teaching hospitals, and subscriptions to all medical journals.
The junior doctors have been taking up various novel protests to be noticed by the media and in turn the State government. The APJUDA earlier intimated the media that the agitators would hop on one leg. This was later abandoned when the majority of the junior doctors, who are women, refused to hop and this was converted into a rally in which they walked backwards.
Hopping was planned to suggesting that the State government had become lame, but some junior doctors felt that this was demeaning to people who were physically disadvantaged.
