Admission process for NID Vijayawada begins

In a significant development in the field of higher education in Andhra Pradesh, applications have been invited for admission to four-year Graduate Diploma in Design (GDD) programme of the National Institute of Design (NID) coming up at Mangalagiri in Guntur district, for the academic year 2015-16.

It is one of the four new NID campuses being established in the country in accordance with the National Design Policy. The GDD program will be offered at the NID’s transit campus at Acharya Nagarjuna University before a full-fledged infrastructure is created at Mangalagiri where 30 acres of land has been allotted by the State government.

According to the admission notification hosted on NID website (www.nid.edu), the initial intake for the course is 60 seats and three specialisations — industrial design, communication design and textile and apparel design — will be offered.

Students who have already passed or those appearing for the qualifying examination (10+2) during 2014-15 are eligible for the course and they have to write a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) scheduled to be conducted on June 14 at Vijayawada, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

It will be followed by a studio test at Vijayawada on August 8. The DAT results will be announced on July 11 and final result on August 14.

Registrations have to be made online before May 22. The total annual fee has been pegged at Rs. 1,75,800 and a refundable deposit of Rs. 10,000 is also to be paid. More details can be found on the above website.
