There is a touch of Ganga to the on-going Krishna Pushkarams. As part of river-linking project, river Godavari has made its presence by entering the Krishna thus making the river festival a unique one.
Now, committed Hindu enthusiasts, numbering 60 from Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu, have arrived at Vijayawada representing the Hindu United Progressive Movement and are distributing water fetched from the Ganga from Haridwar.
Armed with a vessel filled with sacred water and a spoon, these volunteers are seen on the Brahmin Street offering the holy water to pilgrims.
“The Ganga is the most sacred river to Hindus. It is worshipped as the Goddess Ganga in Hinduism. For 12 days we will distribute water to hundreds of pilgrims and we consider it as an opportunity to serve the community, says Kadhir, a volunteer.
Satisfaction
These volunteers have brought hundreds of litres of water in 25-litre plastic containers and they are residing in a school near Arjun Street.
Mr. Vasanthan, another volunteer, said that the members of the movement distributed the sacred water to the pilgrims during the Godavari Pushkarams at Rajahmundry.
“We derive satisfaction while serving the community by distributing the holy water,” they say in unison.
