Action sought against journo attackers

Media delegation seeks action against staff of private travel operators who reportedly attacked media personnel covering raids by Transport Department on offices of private bus operators

City Police Commissioner B. Srinivasulu on Tuesday assured representatives of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) that those responsible for attack on media personnel on Monday night would not be spared.

He was speaking after accepting a memorandum submitted by a delegation of print and electronic media, seeking action against staff of private travel operators who reportedly attacked media personnel covering raids by Transport Department on offices of private bus operators who were flouting rules.

After having a first hand account of the incident through his staff members, the CP assured that people involved in the attack would be nabbed at the earliest. He said three persons were already arrested in this connection while one, who was on the run, would also be nabbed soon.

APUWJ State executive committee members Ch. Ravi and N. Chalapathi Rao, urban union president and secretary M. Prasad and D. Venkatewara Rao, Press Club president K. Jairaj, senior union leaders A. Brahmaiah and D. Nagaraju and electronic media representatives Mukkanti, P. Ramesh Babu, D.V. Subba Rao and others represented the team that met the CP.
