Ninety per cent of works at the East and West galleries are completed, says official

The exclusive cricket stadium coming up at Amaravati in Mangalagiri by the Andhra Cricket Association will be completed by 2018, according to ACA joint secretary Ch. Arun Kumar here on Thursday.

Speaking to The Hindu, he said the stadium works which commenced in 2013 had witnessed a roadblock in 2014 as some architectural flaws had been identified. “We changed the architect and resumed the work after taking the corrective measures.”

He said Rs.40-crore-worth civil works had been completed. “Ninety per cent of the works at the East and West galleries were completed and the South block is nearing completion. However, work at the North Block has just begun and only 30 per cent of the work is completed.”

Mr. Kumar said the stadium would have a spectator capacity of 30,000 and the association was planning to come up with 50 corporate boxes accommodating 20 persons. “These boxes are either sold or let on lease to the corporate companies,” he added. He said the cost of the stadium had witnessed escalation owing to delay and increase in the prices of raw materials. “It will take Rs. 110 crore to make the stadium ready for an international match in 2019.”

He said along with the civil works, facilities such as dressing rooms, lighting, water, drainage, green cover and internal roads would be taken up simultaneously.

The stadium, coming up on 23 acres, will have a club house in the second phase which will house guest rooms, swimming pool, badminton and squash courts, open air theatre and a restaurant.

The indoor stadium, adjacent to the main stadium, was inaugurated recently by BCCI president Anurag Thakur. The complex is also housing ACA Central Zone academy.
