The air-conditioned double-decker trains between Kacheguda and Vijayawada operated on Monday evoked good response from passengers.

The Vijayawada-bound train (no. 02118) left Kacheguda at 06.45 a.m. and reached the destination at 1.10 p.m. and in the return direction, the train (no. 02117) left Vijayawada at 2.45 p.m. as per schedule. These trains have 10 AC coaches each.

The South Central Railway operated these trains to clear summer rush between Vijayawada and Hyderabad and it came as a relief for passengers who were struggling to reach the Capital because of the strike by RTC employees.

They wanted additional trips to be run during summer.

Trial run

It was an opportunity for SCR to test the tracks for possible introduction of double-decker luxury trains between Vijayawada and Kacheguda on a permanent basis via Warangal.

SCR officials heaved a sigh of relief as the trains had a smooth journey.

The double-decker train that was planned to be run between Kacheguda and Guntur was successfully tested earlier this year and it was sought to be extended up to Vijayawada.

A decision on this is yet to be taken.
