Amaravati Acers, Vijayawada franchisee of the Andhra Badminton League, has started its training session under the watchful eyes of coaches Sudhakar Reddy and J.B.S. Vidyadhar. The week-long league will commence at Kurnool on April 20 and the final will be played at Vijayawada on April 27.

Around 50 top players from A.P. who have played both international and national events are taking part in the league.

Yarlagadda Rajasekhar, member of the franchisee, told The Hindu after the brochure release function that the tournament would be unpredictable as the game was played for 11 points.

“A player who exhibits swift reflexes and fast movement on court will have the advantage. You got be on the offensive mode right from the beginning,” he said, and added that his team was banking heavily on its star men’s doubles pair Heman Nagendra Babu and Syed Basheer.

Both Sudhakar and Vidyadhar are highlighting the importance of an alert mind and a fit body and are spending extra time with players in making them match-fit.
