AAP to contest from 70 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh

March 24, 2014 02:24 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:25 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

From the initial hoopla of fielding candidates from all the 294 Assembly segments and 42 Parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, the Aam Aadmi Party has finally settled down for about 60 to 70 Assembly seats and 10 to 12 Lok Sabha seats for the coming polls.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, AAP’s State convenor B. Ramakrishna Raju said, “We received a lot of applications but all were not of our standards and hence we reduced the numbers. The screening process was pretty stringent and many failed to reach our set parameters.”

AAP party will be conducting a meeting with the volunteers from all the 13 districts of Seemandhra at Guntur on Monday to decide on the segments and finalise the list of candidates. Apart from the State leaders, the party’s national executive committee members Pankaj Gupta and Ajit Jha will attend the meeting. “A similar meeting will be held at Hyderabad on March 25 to finalise the candidates for the Telangana region,” said Mr. Raju.
