The twelfth edition of the ‘Happy Sunday’ initiative held on the M.G. Road near the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium and the BRTS Road saw an equal amount of enthusiasm among the participants and organisers as on the first edition.

The first ‘Happy Sunday’ programme was conducted by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and DEEP, an NGO with the support of the City Police and other departments on May 1 last year. It had since started attracting people of various sections to visit the venue on the first Sunday of every month and take part in various activities like sports, games, cultural events and others.

With increasing supporting from the public, one more venue came up and many other towns and cities in the State also started similar programmes.

On Sunday, the special attraction was cultural performances by differently-abled children of the Bezawada Institute for Learning Development (BILD). Representatives of the BILD explained the initial symptoms in children with autism and other issues to create awareness among the parents. Marking the World Autism Awareness Day, which is observed on April 2, the organisers released blue balloons into the air.

Chief Medical and Health Officer M. Gopi Naik inaugurated the pulse polio campaign by administering polio drops to infants at the special stall arranged at the venue.

Assistant veterinary surgeon N. Sridhar, Medical officers Ramakoteswara Rao and Iqbal Hussain and others were present. Children also took part in Yoga classes.
