Using a unique combination of private-public partners the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) at the Dr. N.T.R. Government General Hospital (Gunadala) here completed one year on Friday.

As many as 338 highly critical patients were provided intensive care, including mechanical ventilation, in this specialised unit that was under the supervision and management of the Department of Anaesthesia.

Round-the-clock care

The patients who were critically ill and needed round the clock care were taken care of by specialists and paramedics attached to the ICU.

Donor support

Anaesthesia Department Head Bhimeswar said that the RICU was set up and maintained with donor support.

Donor Ranganath Nandyal and the Tata Trust provided the bio-medical infrastructure required for the unit.

Tata Trust lends a hand

The Tata Trust had also extended operational support by providing the monthly cost of ten nurses and a few diagnostic services.

An agency that coordinated between the donors, paramedics and the hospital authorities also played a vital role in the running of the ICU.

United Care Development Services provided the critical service of coordination between the different partners for the success of the project.

Siddhartha Medical College principal Shashank complimented the efforts of the Anaesthesia Department specialists and the different agencies involved.

A function was organised at the GGH to mark completion of one year by the unit. Dr. Shashank, Dr. Bhimeswar, Anaesthesia professor Suryasree, Tata Trust representatives Pavithra and Ranjendra, and United Care Development Services representative Gunaranjan spoke.
