Students from 65 engineering colleges taking part in ‘Vignan Nirulotsav'

Vignan Nirulotsav-2011, an annual State-level inter-collegiate competition for engineering students, took off on a grand note on the premises of Vignan's Nirula Institute of Technology & Science for Women at Palakaluru near here on Thursday.

Students from 65 engineering colleges across the State were taking part in the event, which would test students' multi-faceted skills in paper presentation, cultural, literary, fine arts, theatre and sports sections. The best student would be adjudged Miss. Nirulotsav.

On the opening day, the students sizzled in a fashion show and regaled the audiences with song and dance shows.

‘Aim high'

At the inaugural held here, Guntur Divisional Railway Manager Anand Mathur said that India would become a super power by the year 2050 and asked students to face the future with confidence. The world had already become a global village and students should aim at developing a fine personality. The students could also utilise the many employment opportunities in Indian Railways, he said.

MLC N. Rajakumari said that women excelled in fields like politics, publishing and sports. She called upon the girls to play sports and games as that would give them stamina.

Another guest of honour P.V. Sankara Rao complimented the management for setting up the college in lush green environs.

Chairman, Vignan Group of Educational Institutions, Lavu Rathaiah, said that if it was former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao who first extended reservation for women 20 years ago, the present government launched fees reimbursement scheme that had drawn many students to engineering studies.

Executive director Paturi Koteswara Rao and others spoke.

The valedictory would be held on Friday and cine lyric writer Ananth Sriram and IG Anjana Sinha would be the chief guests.
