To match the efforts of the United Nations Organisation (UNO), various professional and people's organisations came together and started making arrangements to involve nearly one crore people in the State in taking the pledge for ‘Peace for All' on September 21 (Tuesday) declared as the World Peace Day by the UNO.
Graduate MLC Chigurupati Vara Prasad said that the pledge would be taken in large groups under the leadership of individuals, organisations, families and every human entity. Leading the State in this noble task, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah would take part in the ‘Peace for All' programme to be held at Ravindra Bharathi.
Positive vibrations
Mr. Vara Prasad said that all the people would be taking the pledge simultaneously at 11 a.m. on that day so that the positive vibrations would spread powerfully sending the message of peace strongly among people in all corners. He said that similar peace-promoting programmes would be organised in Vijayawada and other cities under the leadership of elected representatives, officials and others.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Vara Prasad said that the Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Walkers' Associations and Vasavi Clubs came together to give their time and energy in strengthening the cause of achieving world peace by promoting harmony and happiness at the individual, family, organisational and social, regional and national levels.
The pledge
Stating that the government had extended full support to this programme, Mr. Vara Prasad said: “This is the pledge we have to take on that day. We seek peace in the world. For this cause, we will pursue peace. We ensure peace of others. We take this pledge not to disturb peace of others in any manner.”
Mr. Vara Prasad said that all political organisations from the ruling Congress party to the Telugu Desam Party and from Telangana Rashtra Samithi to the Majlis-Ittehadul Muslimeen, leaders of all parties would be participating in the peace for all programmes in different parts of the State.
In the city, Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu and officials would be leading the peace-related programmes.
Threat to peace
At a media conference in Guntur, Mr. Vara Prasad said that the world needed peace more than any time in the past and in India too there was a threat to peace from divisive and communal forces. He urged managements of various schools and colleges to participate in the programme. MLC K.S Lakhsmana Rao was also present.
