Deviating from the normal practice of reducing International Women's Day celebrations into felicitations to women from different walks of life, the Samana Institute of Fashion Technology (SIFT) doled out a refreshing treat to the fairer sex at their institute on Thursday.

A select gathering of women achievers in their respective fields was invited to be part of an eventful evening packed with fun, entertainment and some rewarding moments. There was music, there were dance numbers and fun unlimited that kept the gathering on a high.

The boisterous all-women gathering made the best of the occasion to unwind amidst warm and genial atmosphere. Reiterating their ‘dependability' and the element of ‘beauty' they lend to this universe, the fairer sex was in no mood to let the charm of the day diminish.

A lively medley presented by girl students of SIFT on old peppy Hindi film songs brought cheer to the audience. Then there was an impromptu round of a ramp walk by SIFT girls, each accompanied by women from different fields.

The session was dedicated to celebration of womanhood.

In yet another meaningful celebration of the day, a team of 45-odd students from different local colleges, under the banner of SPIRIT, a students' service organisation, visited Amodini, an orphanage run for girls near Nagarjuna University by the SKCV Trust, and organised a number of exciting activities to celebrate the occasion. Rangoli, painting, mehendi, nail art, dance and a few games kept the inmates of the home engaged.

They also donated a washing machine to the home besides nightwear, tooth paste, tooth brushes and other material sponsored by students of KL University, RS Jewellers and Suvarna Scientific Equipments.

Founder and executive chairman of SPIRIT G. Somanth, Sindhu P., Aslesha V and a host of others played active role in the programme.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation felicitated women achievers from various fields to mark the day.

At a meeting held in Payakapuram, women were honoured for their accomplishments in various fields. The meeting was attended by additional Municipal Commissioner P.Venkata Ramana, Congress leader Kolanakonda Sivaji, former mayor Tadi Sakunthala, BJP Mahila leader Sri Lakshmi among others.
