A three-year-old girl is undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in the city after she was allegedly branded by her mother.

The incident came to light when the girl’s father, Md. Shoukat Ali, lodged a complain with the II Town police on Saturday alleging that his wife, Md. Asma Begum, had branded their daughter.

According to Mr. Ali, who runs a fast-food centre, following a fight with him, an angry Asma branded their daughter on her legs with a spatula.

Shoukat and Asma are married for six years and have two children. The couple reportedly has frequent fights over several issues including Asma’s cruelty to her children.

Police said Shoukat, in his complaint, mentioned that even in the past Asma had beaten up their son and allegedly caused him severe injuries.

On Saturday, Shoukat returned home from market and found his daughter suffering from severe burns and blisters on the legs apparently due to the branding with a spatula he uses to make noodles. Even as Shoukat rushed her to the hospital and approached the police, Asma absconded from home.

Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, who learnt of the issue, directed doctors and the GGH to provide the best treatment and care to the child and also asked police officials to book a case against the woman.

Police registered a case against Asma and investigation is on.
