Jana Sena Party (JSP) president and actor Pawan Kalyan has asserted that Indian politicians lacked foresight which is evident from many instances including the turbulence that marked the birth of the separate State of Telangana.
The parties had kept the Telangana Statehood issue on the back-burner for long and later showed undue haste in carving it out in an arbitrary manner. As a consequence, the people had to pay a heavy price.
“I will go to any extent if the rulers renege on their commitments to the public,” he said.
“Take the issue of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. Before the elections, they promised to do a lot of things. After coming to power, they have instead started reeling out statistics. If not lies, what are they telling the people,” he wondered.
Threatening calls
Addressing the Indian Diaspora at Nashua city in Hillsborough County in the U.S., Mr. Pawan Kalyan said he received many threatening calls when he had set up the Common Man Protection Force but forayed into politics as it was not possible to help the needy otherwise.
“I have tested myself for a long time before taking the plunge into politics. I know how to stand up to setbacks and deliver a blow when the situation arises,” he stated, insisting that politics was sacred, not rot as some believed it to be.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said: “I have set up the party and am running it with my own money to serve society which gave me this high stature. It’s main weapon is courage. We will not compromise on the people’s interests.”
“For expanding the party (JSP) we need men of integrity and commitment, and also money. Many philanthropists have come forward to support us but I considered money to be a burden,” he added.
Latha Mangipudi, Member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Upendra Chivukula and others were present.
