RTC to operate Volvo bus service to airport

Fare will be Rs. 100 per passenger

To cater to the transport needs of people coming into the city from Gannavaram airport, the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will operate special buses (Volvo-air conditioned) from the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) to the airport. The bus will start at PNBS and reach the airport en route Gateway Hotel, Fortune Murali Park and D.V. Manor on Bandar Road, Benz Circle and Ramavarappadu Ring Road. The buses will follow same route while returning to the bus station.

To fetch passengers from the airport, the buses will make seven trips from PNBS at 6.40 a.m., 7.40 a.m., 8.45 a.m., 1.00 p.m., 3.10 p.m., 3.45 p.m. and at 7.10 p.m.

From airport, the buses will start at 7.50 a.m., 8.50 a.m., 9.55 a.m., 4.10 p.m., 6.20 p.m., 7.30 p.m. and at 8.20 p.m. Earlier, the RTC operated three non-AC buses to and fro for the purpose. “There is an increase in the number of departures necessitating the decision and we hope it will further go up in the days to come,” said Regional Manager of the Corporation P. Rama Rao. A uniform bus fare of ₹100 per head would be charged.

Licence Mela

To facilitate disbursal of LLR, Road Transport Authority wing on Sunday organised an LLR Mela at the office of the Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC).

DTC, Krishna, E. Meera Prasad, said to ensure road safety, the department had been insisting on acquirement of vehicle licences only by eligible candidates.

He said of the 1,482 auto-rickshaw drivers who had applied for vehicle licence, 1,380 of them had been given the same at the mela.
