Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda has given instructions to reduce the marks in the NEET examination for PG medical courses. This will benefit a large number of candidates from Andhra Pradesh, who failed to qualify the common examination.
State Minister for Medical and Health Kamineni Srinivas, who met the Union Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday, talking to the media said he had made a representation to Mr. Nadda saying that the number of eligible candidates from Andhra Pradesh was very low. Responding immediately, the Union Minister gave instructions that the eligibility marks be reduced.
“Though only Andhra Pradesh made a representation, candidates from all the states in the country are benefiting. This will ensure that the PG seats in all the medical colleges in the State will get filled,” Dr. Srinivas said. The reduction in eligibility marks would be coming into effect even before the first counselling, he said.
The Union Minister also agreed for having a NEET centre in Tirupati for the benefit of candidates from Rayalaseema. Currently there were centres only in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, Dr. Srinivas explained.
The Union Minister also said that a decision would be taken on the proposed AIIMS at Mangalagiri shortly. A meeting would be convened to discuss it specially, Dr. Srinivas said.
