The two model police stations being built in the Guntur district aim to encourage public interaction with the police and create a pleasing work environment for the men in uniform.

The police stations at Nagarampalem and Old Guntur are nearing completion. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate them after he returns from his trip to Davos, Switzerland.

While the existing police station at Old Guntur has been pulled down, the Nagarampalem police station will make way for the traffic police station.

Director-General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao has designed the model police stations to change the way people look at conventional police stations.

The police stations have been ergonomically designed with welcoming greenery in the front yard, tiled pavements all around and a parking lot. These features aimed at creating a more open, community oriented police force in the city.

“The construction costs come to about 50 per cent of the estimated expenditure, while the remaining amount has been spent on logistics, greenery and adding new facilities. The cost is half that of constructing any other conventional police station but the facilities provide a refreshing air and a transparent style of functioning for the policemen,’’ says Inspector General of Police, Guntur, N. Sanjay.

The station has an air-conditioned office for the station house officer, besides two cabins for Sub-Inspectors and a reception cabin. There are work stations for policemen as well as a command and control centre and a communication centre. A detention room is also provided in the premises.

“The model police station engages public while maintaining a sense of transparency, openness and efficiency,” said Mr. Sanjay, who has been monitoring the work on a daily basis.

The model police stations are built over 3,000 square feet which includes parking facility.
