January 05, 2017 01:12 am | Updated 01:12 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Third Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday awarded imprisonment till death to an accused for sexually exploiting minor girls and extortion of money through blackmailing them with obscene photographs.

The court also awarded 20 years for three other accused and three-year jail term for one person. The gang exploited about 20 victims, took their photos and blackmailed them and their parents.

On August 23, 2014, constables of the Mahila Police Station arrested the five, Nimmakuri Sairam, Parvapu Deepak Kumar, Muthala Durga Prasad, Pasupathi Abhilash and Shaik Munna Abdul Khader. One juvenile was also taken into custody on the same charges.

Intermediate, degree, B. Tech and medical students and some married women were among the victims. The police booked cases against the accused under Sections 376 (D), 384, 354, 509, 506 of IPC and Section 4, 6, 12 of POCSO Act, according to Circle Inspector Sahera, who investigated the case. The accused trapped the girls at different bus stops on the pretext of love, took them to Sairam’s house located at Kanuru (on the city outskirts) and took obscene photos with the hidden cameras. Later, they used to blackmail and rape them. They extorted money from the victims by threatening to post their photographs in social media, said Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Donepudi Sambasiva Rao, who argued the case.

“The accused were in jail for two years and four months, and moved bail petition for 20 times, but in vain. They filed bail petition in the High Court, which was rejected,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector B. Satyanarayana.

The court examined 16 witnesses. The juvenile was sent to the Observation Home, the APP said.
