The construction of Interim Government Complex (IGC) at Velagapudi in Guntur district reached a milestone on Sunday. It was just about over a year ago (on February 17, 2016) that the foundation was laid for it by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
But it took just about eight months for the A.P Capital Region Development Authority (AP-CRDA) to give the final shape to the most important buildings.
According to a CRDA release, the IGC construction began in 45 acres comprising six buildings each having one lakh square metres of space. The construction of five buildings was completed by October 2, 2016 with state-of-the-art facilities.
The Chief Minister began functioning from the IGC from November 30 and the first Cabinet meeting there was held on December 1, 2016.
For the time being, the IGC is a G+1 project but it has got pile foundations (depth ranging from 14 to 30 metres) can withstand seven floors. Separate tenders have been called for construction and internal works and Shapoorji Pallonji and Larsen and Toubro have won the contracts through international competitive bidding.
The cost of the entire project which was divided into eight packages stands at about ₹516 crore. All the buildings have been equipped with public address systems, which can transmit communications from the Chief Minister’s Office instantly. Besides, the IGC has advanced computer data systems, access controls and other modern amenities.
Legislature buildings
The Legislative Council and Assembly buildings have been readied with 90 and 231 seats respectively. The desks are fitted with speakers which can transmit sound in all directions.
