Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Minister Peetala Sujatha has said the State Government is planning to construct own buildings for 7,000 Anganwadi Centres.

Ms. Sujatha, along with Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad and Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadde Anuradha and officials, laid foundation stone for construction of the WD&CW Project Director office at Kanuru in the city on Monday.

The building would be constructed at a cost of Rs.1.30 crore, she said and asked the staff to extend better services to women, children and the aged.

She said construction of the buildings for 5,700 centres had been under process and the structures were at different stages and the Government had sanctioned buildings for 7,000 more centres. The revised salaries for Anganwadi teachers and workers would be paid with effect from April this year.

Payments would be made for all anganwadi staff in a couple of days, she said.

WD&CW Regional Joint Director R. Suez, Project Director K. Krishna Kumari, Child Development Project Officers, supervisors, Anganwadi teachers and workers participated in the ‘ bhoomi puja ’ programme.
