A five-year-old girl was raped by her 22-year-old relative at Goginenipalem village of Ghantasala mandal in Krishna district on Wednesday.

The incident came to light after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint with police.

Victim critical

Investigation Officer and Challapalli Circle Inspector N. Durga Rao said the girl was taken to a local hospital where doctors expressed inability to treat her, as her condition was said to be very critical.

According to police, the accused, K. Srinivasa Rao, an agriculture labourer from Goginenipalem village, took the girl to his relative’s house around 12.30 p.m., telling her that he would play with her for some time. After committing the crime, Rao left the victim at her house.

Police said the girl was found in front of her house with severe injuries on her face.

“Doctors at Government Hospital, Machilipatnam, referred her to Government General Hospital, Vijayawada, for better medical treatment,” said Mr. Durga Rao.

Police also registered a case and took the accused into custody on Wednesday evening. Another investigation officer representing the Women Police Station, Machilipatnam, E. Ramani, said the girl was not in a position to respond, and that her statement could not be recorded.

According to police, the victim was being provided necessary medical treatment.
