The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has identified as many as 5,000 potholes on main thoroughfares connecting Sri Kanakadurga Temple where thousands of devotees observing ‘Bhavani diskha’, participate in ‘Giripradakshanas’ from December 12 to 16.

Officials said ‘Giripradakshanas’ will commence from Durga ghat and proceed through Kumaripallem, Sitara junction, Milk Factory, Chittinagar, Brahmana Street and culminate at the temple. “In line with instructions of the VMC Commissioner, we have set up nine special squads to repair damaged roads at a cost of over Rs. 25 lakh,” a senior VMC official explained.

“We are hopeful of completing the works at the earliest,” he said. Road users complained that they were facing problems due to potholes on the main stretches at the temple main entrance, filter bed building, Kumaripallem Centre, Siddhartha Centre, Milk Factory, Chittinagar etc. “We request officials concerned to take up repairs in the larger interest of the devotees,” a senior citizen K. Ramakrishna Murthy said.
