After making High Security Number Plates (HSNP) mandatory for all new vehicles in the State, the Transport Department will now set up four more embossing stations in Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur and Anantapur districts by January 25 to ensure hassle-free installation of the number plates.
At present, embossing stations are functioning in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Chittoor and Kadapa. A service provider has been entrusted with the task of embossing registration number on plates at the respective regional transport offices.
A vehicle owner is issued a registration number and an authorisation letter to approach the service provider’s counter at RTO offices.
After collecting the charges, the service provider prepares the number plate and embosses the registration number on it. Once the HSNP is ready, an SMS is sent to the owner on the date and time for installation, says Joint Transport Commissioner S.A.V. Prasada Rao, adding that the procedure has to be completed in four days, if failed, the service provider will be levied with penalty. Efforts are on to establish one embossing station each in all 13 districts by January 31, Mr. Rao adds.
