340 quintals of rice seized in Vijayawada

The State Vigilance Department seized about 340 quintals of rice meant for the public distribution system in Vijayawada on Sunday. The seized rice amounting to the tune of about Rs. 8.2 lakh was being illegally transported from Prakasam district to East Godavari district in two lorries without any official permit.

The rice belonged to one Mr. Rajesh Gupta of Prakasam district. The checking was conducted by the team led by officer P. Rajesh at Varadhi near Krishnalanka. The drivers of both the lorries were taken into custody and the seized rice was handed over to Collector M. Raghunandana Rao.

Sleuths of Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) seized 330 bags of rice, being transported illegally in a lorry. On a tip-off, the team led by Guntur Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer R.N. Ammi Reddy conducted the raid at Auto Nagar and seized the rice, meant for public distribution system. Cases wereregistered against six persons involved in smuggling of PDS rice, said the RVEO.
