The District Administration has urged the mineral plant owners to supply water packets free of cost to pilgrims at Kanakadurga temple during Dasara festival. Revenue Divisional Officer S. Venkat Rao convened a meeting with the plant owners here on Tuesday. On the occasion, he said that 20 lakh to 25 lakh water packets were required during nine-day Dasara festival which begins on September 28.

The devotees across the state, and other parts of the country would take part in the celebrations. The Durga Malleswara Swamy Devasthanam Durga temple management has invited e-tenders for the supply of water packets.

Some bidders had offered to supply water at 35 paise a sachet. It was estimated that it would cost Rs.10 lakh, he said. Mr. Rao asked the plant owners to obtain ISI certificates by applying before September 20.

The plant owners had volunteered to supply 10 lakh sachets free of cost. Thanking the plant owners' for their gesture, temple EO M. Raghunath said that it was necessary to draw a plan regarding sachets supply. Each plant owner should inform the temple about the day, and number of sachets which they intend to supply.

If all water sachets were dumped on a single day, it would be of no use, he said. Youth Welfare Officer Velaga Joshi, RWS EE Padmanabha Rao, DE Trinatha Rao, District Redcross Society treasurer Illa Ravi, temple EE Murali Balakrishna, and others were present.
